Won’t Stop Clicking

A gas stovetop will produce a clicking sound when it is trying to ignite the burners. If a cooktop is continuously clicking, than it is experiencing an issue with its ignition. This can be a failure within the spark control module, or even a faulty burner switch. In some cases, you may experience this issue after a spill or a cleaning. If the moisture gets into the burner switch, it can temporarily create an electrical short. This will result in a continuous spark from the burner ignitor and will continue until moisture dries out.  If the unit is only clicking while a burner is lit, it is important to first check that the burner caps are assembled properly. Make sure the burner has a nice even blue flame when lit. Improper gas flow can affect the units ability to recognize that the flame is lit, and may continuously attempt to ignite. 

Gas Burner Will Not Light 

If a burner on your gas stove top wont light, it is best to first check that the burner is assembled correctly. Each burner cap must be on the appropriate burner. If burner is not assembled correctly, gas flow will be insufficient to light. It is essential to keep all burners clean. Grease and oil can clog the burner’s orifices, keeping the burner from lighting.

It is also good to verify that the ignitor is sparking.  Don’t be alarmed if you see all burner ignitors sparking simultaneously, as this is normal for most models. If the problematic burner is not sparking, you may be in need of a new ignitor or spark module. 

Electric Burner Will Not Heat

When your electric burner will not turn on, you may need to call an expert. There are many different styles of electric burners, and many different types failures. Many issues are often seen in the burner itself or the burner's connection to power supply. Electric burners will pull a great deal of amperage. Therefore, connections, switches, and relays are vulnerable to arcing and melting. 

Leaving Soot on Pots and Pans 

If your finding black soot on the bottom of you pots and pans, the problem should be address immediately.  Black soot is a sign that there is an inefficient burn, which could be putting out harmful levels of carbon monoxide. To avoid this, keep all burners clean, and make sure there is a nice even blue flame while cooking.
