A faulty evaporator can cause the refrigerator to not cool properly, as well as frosting coils making symptoms worse over time.   Excessive frost on the coils can damage the cooling system, requiring repair. If you see frost on the coils but your refrigerator is still cold, clear them with a hair dryer to restore proper function before they cause costly damage to your refrigerator. 

Sub-Zero refrigerators that are not working right may have damaged or dirty cooling systems, frozen refrigerants and component problems like defrost cycles and control boards. 

If your Sub-Zero refrigerator does not have a cooling issue but the freezer does, this may be a symptom of a defective evaporator fan motor.

An effect fan motor can cause an increase in your refrigerator or freezer’s temperature. This can result in the food inside spoiling as well as reduced efficiency in your appliance.

Imagine a refrigerator that dispenses hot air, keeping food at room temperature. Alternatively, what if your refrigerator runs cold but you can’t get your freezer any colder? All of these problems and more can be traced to the evaporator fan motor, which is a highly reliable component that can fail without warning.

If you notice these signs, the evaporator fan motor may be the culprit for why your refrigerator won’t get cold but freezer will:  

** The fan motor runs loudly 

** Fan blades don’t turn easily by hand 

** Multimeter testing of the motor reveals a lack of continuity In either of these cases, the fan motor requires a professional replacement.

Condenser Coils Need Cleaning 

Did you know that you should clean your refrigerator’s condenser coils every 3-6 months? These coils are responsible for cooling the refrigerant that produces cool air for the refrigerator. Dusty coils are less able to cool refrigerant, resulting in a Sub-Zero refrigerator not working but freezer is fine.
